Til venstre Gundersens Vin-engros, som skjuler Jernbanen. I Gundersenbygget kom senere Agder Kjøpelag og Agder Tidend. Nåværende Amigos helt til høyre. Sjøhusene i forgrunnen til venstre ble avløst av bussterminalen.
 
To the left Gundersens wine wholesalers, hiding the railway. The Gundersen building later became the premises of Agder Kjøpelag and Agder Tidend, a local newspaper. The present Amigos restaurant to the extreme right. The dockside buildings in the foreground were replaced by the bus station.

Før brannen i 1892 sto en svær trebygning mot høyre, stiftamtmannens bolig. Bygget helt til høyre er nå revet, til en åpen plass.
Gaten brolagt med "kålrabistein".
Søndenfjeldske Privatbank skimtes i det fjerne.

Prior to the town fire of 1892 a very large wooden building stood on the right hand side – the residence of the diocese dignitary. The building to the extreme right has now been demolished and is a vacant lot. The street had been paved with cobbles. The Søndenfjeldske Privat Bank building can just be seen in the distance.

Festningsgaten opp til venstre. Hjørnehuset midt i bildet ble etter brannen avløst av Odd Fellow-bygningen. Helt til venstre rådmann Johan Henrik van Kervels  "Det hollandske hus". 
Engelske skyvevinduer og stående panel, som var vanlig på 1700-tallet.
 
Festningsgaten up to the left. After the fire the corner house in the centre of the picture was replaced by the Odd Fellow building. To the extrene left the residence of John Henrik van Kervels, a local dignitary. It was known as “The Dutch House”. English style sash windows and vertical pannelling, which was usual in the 18th century.
